About Racer Bioscience

Accelerating discovery with tools built by scientists, for scientists.

Accelerating discovery with tools built by scientists, for scientists.

Our Mission

To empower scientists with performance-driven molecular biology reagents—designed by and for the people who use them.

No marketing fluff. No artificial complexity. Just tools that move your science forward.

Built with the Inventor of Gibson Assembly

Our technical foundation is inspired by the pioneering work of Dr. Dan Gibson, inventor of Gibson Assembly® and a board member at Racer.

Dan’s track record—from creating the world’s first synthetic genome to developing the BioXp™ DNA printer—guides how we design experiments, formulate kits, and define our product vision. His pioneering expertise, paired with our team’s scientific and operational strength, gives Racer a distinct advantage: the insight of an innovator combined with the speed of a nimble team.

What We're Launching

We’re launching F1-X™ Next-Gen Gibson Assembly — a next-generation cloning kit engineered for high-fidelity single- and multi-fragment assembly.

Key Features

  • Simple, one-pot setup
  • No-freeze format
  • Automation-ready
  • Built for standard and multi-fragment workflows

Note:
The limited Inventor’s Lot first batch is open for pre-order and ships around late 2025. Every kit is backed by a 100% guarantee.

Designed with Scientists, for Scientists

We build the kits we always wished existed—because we’ve been on the other side of the bench.

From day one, we’ve worked closely with researchers, engineers, and early users to ensure our tools solve real problems—not just look good on paper. Whether it's improving fidelity, reducing cost per reaction, or eliminating workflow friction, we ask:
Will this make the science faster, simpler, or better?

Meet the Team

We’re a small, experienced team based in San Diego. We come from startups, public biotech, academic labs, and engineering teams—here to build tools that matter.

Tei Newman-Lehman

 President & General Manager

Tei is a biotech operator and engineer with deep experience at the intersection of synthetic biology and automation. He previously served as General Manager of Eton Biosciences, where he led operations and helped stabilize and divest the business. He also co-founded and ran multiple technology companies, and helped develop the first commercial DNA printer. At Racer, he drives product strategy and execution.

Jasmine Hershewe, Ph.D.

 Chief Scientific Officer

Jasmine is a synthetic biologist and chemical engineer with deep expertise in DNA assembly, cell-free protein synthesis systems, and glycoengineering. She spent years at the bench in academia and industry, building broad experience in synthetic biology, molecular cloning, and automation. At Telesis Bio, she worked as the global head of field applications science, helping deploy BioXp™ and Gibson Assembly technologies across industry. She leads Racer’s scientific vision and reagent development with a strong focus on customer needs and real-world application. Her combined bench experience and focus on customer success ensure Racer’s products are built to perform.

Todd R. Nelson

Founder & BOD Member Chairman, NelGaard Capital LLC

Todd has served as the Founder and/or Chief Executive Officer of several life science companies through expansive phases of financial and commercial growth, including  Telesis Bio (formerly, SGI-DNA), DiscoverX Corporation (now Eurofins), MP Biomedicals, LLC (now Valiant), and eBioscience, Inc., (now Thermo Fisher Scientific).  Todd has also been the Founder of Tonbo Biosciences (now Cytek Corporation), Mimulus Corp; Racer Biosciences, Cellari Therapeutics, Lokoya Capital, and NelGaard Capital.  Dr. Nelson also previously served as Vice President of Global Corporate Development and Strategy at Life Technologies (now Thermo Fisher Scientific), as First Vice President Global Securities and Economics at Merrill Lynch & Co, and as Global Head of Life Sciences at RBC Capital Markets, LLC.

Daniel Gibson, Ph.D.

Inventor of Gibson Assembly, Board Member and Advisor to Racer Bioscience

Dan is the inventor of Gibson Assembly and a founding figure in synthetic biology. He co-led the creation of the first synthetic genome, the first synthetic life form, and later developed the BioXp™ DNA printer and digital-to-biological converter. As a board member and advisor at Racer, Dan brings cutting-edge insight into enzyme systems, cloning, and biomanufacturing.

F1-X™ is just the beginning.
